Costume Ideas

Hello again!

Two weeks tomorrow,we will be gathering in Gateshead to break the world record for Largest Simultaneous Dance to Michael Jackson's Thriller. We want this to be a fun event for everyone, for all ages and abilities, and ... a sorts of outfits.

Yes, today we'll be giving you some ideas for creating a costume for the big event so you and your fellow zombies look just the part. There are so many options for zombie costumes that will also look great with some of the zombie makeup we shared with you in our last post.

You can of course purchase your otfit for the big event by visiting your locah high street or searching online. However, we also want to give you some ideas for how to customise your own zombie outfits. It's eco AND budget friendly and you're still guarenteed to look the part.

Customising your old clothes is a great activity to do with your family and/or friends. All you have to do is pick out old items of clothing or clothes you no longer wear and use some of the techniques we're about to share with you to make them look perfect for gateshead Thrill Day. However, if you don't want to use your own clothing, you can pick up some items from your local charity shop or borrow some from a friend or family member.

There area number of techniques you can use to customise your own zombie outfit. Here we have a tutorial using a serated knife and dye mixed with water: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1WgMTiFJsE
However, you don't have to use these speciic products. You could use a pari os scissors to cut holes or slits outof your clothes and the water can be mixed with food colouring to create the mould and/or blood.

Goodwill Industries also have some good techniques for customising your own zombie outfits using paints and coffee: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAn5C_TB7fc.
If you don't have paint in your house, felt tips can also work or makeup. Products like red lipstick as well as red and brown eye shadows will look very effective. And don't worry ifyou don't have your own tarp, you can use old newspapers or magazines.

There are so many options for customising your clothes. And this tutorial here goes through a number of them that you can try at home. Feel free to try some or all of them depending onhow much timeyou have and how much you have to spend: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCZHnvS5A0Q

And the brilliant thing about these tutorials is you can make them your own! Take some of the techniques shown and use them however you like to create your zombie costumes. So get together with your family and friends to create some 'thrilling' zombie costumes, grab some old clothes and get customising. We can't wait to see what you've created for Gateshead Thrill Day on Saturday 26th October!
